“Don’t bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.”
I say this to everyone out there reading this as I do to myself: Stop comparing yourself to others. You’re running your own race, and we’re all at different skill levels and points in our training.
You never know where someone is at in their life. I know I used to judge anyone and everyone on my runs. If they were walking, well clearly I was better than them. And if they were going fast than me, of course they weren’t going to run as far as I was.
And then I realized that it didn’t matter their distance or pace. What matters is how I’m improving. That’s why I love keeping track of my routes and times either in my journal or on my RunKeeper app, so that I can track my progress.
There will always be people faster and stronger than you, but there will also always be people slower and weaker than you. All you can do take your time from yesterday, last week, last month, last year, and crush it.
