Gearing Up: Bolder Yoga Mat

If you’re going to be doing yoga, this mat from The Bolder Mat Company is the one you want to be doing it on. I’ve had mine for a few years now and still love it as much as when I first got it.

First of all, this mat is functional. Whether I’m in downward-facing dog, pigeon pose, or wheel pose, this mat supports me. It’s about twice as thick as most mats and is so comfortable to stand, sit, bend, and balance on.

When I’m doing back bends, the mat has great give, and when I’m doing standing poses, it helps support and anchor my feet. It also works well when I’m doing other workouts like weight training or Pilates.

And I love it’s non-slip surface, so that when I get my vinyasa going, I know my hands aren’t going to slide out from under me (talk about embarrassing).

Second, this mat is beautiful. Just take a look at the picture of my mat above. Isn’t it gorgeous? Even if I’m practicing in a concrete warehouse (I did that at my last job), the swirling lines and serene blue color make me feel like I’m on the beach.

Third, this mat is eco-friendly. You wouldn’t be able to tell just by looking, but all of The Bolder Company’s mats are made from sustainable materials. Plus they’re non-toxic, which always helps me breathe easier (and deeper) when I’m recovering in child’s pose.

And lastly, this company is doing great things. They started Renew and Recycle, a community outreach program that accepts donated yoga mats, then cleans and refurbishes them for people in low-income schools, shelters, and prisons. And if you donate you mat to the program, you get $5 off your next purchase (and karma points).
